Divide & Rule: British Ishtyle

2 recent incidents will lay etched in my memory forever. Scenes stark enough to make blood curdle.

First when the news channel were showing a hapless constable being chased by a mob on the streets of Bangalore after Rajkumar's death. As an outsider I could not fathom the reasons behind the riots.

A walk down my neighbourhood told me it was an enforced mourning. Small groups of youth carrying the Karnataka flag on their two wheelers were patrolling the streets.

Even the cooler climes of Kodai were'nt enough to temper me down when I saw a policeman was carried away by mobs and getting lynched in full public view. When you see such a thing you lose all faith in the state.

Second when I saw the mumbai police contables beating up a group of protesting doctors. The policemen looked hellbent on breaking every bones that the students had. What prompted that kind of fury?

It is one of those moments when you itch to be in scene of action and take a stand. But there was not a single voice of condemnation. Reservation is a sensitive issue in country. - a gift of V.P. Singh. Views are polarised based on which side of the coin you are.

Both the above incidents have larger social undertones. The first about the north-south divide and the second about the class divide. And then you Mr. Advani's gift to handle - the communcal divide. The language divide. Each would be a material for a thousand posts.

India's complexity lies in the fact the these different divisive parameters are not independant of each other. If you look each had some virgin nebulous. But each issue was raped by some poltician or the other for furthering their political cause. Each with the potential of becoming a caldroun too hot to handle for the Advanis, the VPs and the Arjun Singhs. These maniacs do not realise that these issues will last well beyond their mortality.

Why does India have so few politicians who leave a positive legacy like Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy.

Do you think there's any indian politician who has never taken a bribe? i am of the opinion that the current crop of senior leaders in bongland haven't, but my friends in south india just pooh pooh my theory. i somehow can't belive that biman bose/ somenath chatterjee/ pranab mukehrjee/ ajit panja/ ghani khan chaudhury etc take/ took bribes :(

If you are talking of living politicians. .. yes Manmohan Singh and Buddhadeb? As for dead.. well I have already cited one example B.C.Roy as for others there were quite a few a group which fast diminishing these days.

But my fundamental irritation is not about corrupt politician who are out to make some money. I dont mind them. But what I do mind is people with some personal agenda, with no vision for the country. The problem with Indian polity is that no one is paid. So this is looked upon as social service.. Why cannot it be another paid profession??

one can be corrupt and efficient at the same time cacti..in the late 80-s the entire jap cabinet got dissolved because of corruption charges.in india the problem is that people take bribes and then act as if they are doing YOU a favor by taking it from you..and then do not do what they were bribed for..

anyway koushik..u forgot to mention the motherfucker who started the concept..AM-FUCKING-BEDKAR..if i had a fucking time machine....

dear kaushik i think people here are expecting wrong things from wrong people. polititians are not leaders, they are simply people who are appointed to run the machinery of a stupid system.you cant expect honesty, ethics or any kind of moral values from them(just look at the background from which these people emerge!) but the worst part is, we are the ones who vote them and put them in those positions.
you get what u deserve.

Rip:

Issue is we are expecting right things from the wrong people.

One has to vote. I always make it a point to vote. I never subscribed to "you get what u deserve" bcoz in India its not about you but US. And that US is fractured. Democracy is more complicated that you think. It cannot be dissected within the boundaries of a blog.

kaushik all i can say is you have no first hand experience in politics and is way too naive to understand the ways of our polititians.all this 'US' and 'DEMOCRACY' is bullshit.i know people who cast 50 votes happily in any given elections.

you can only believe in democracy if you believe in god and ghosts.because you have never seen any of them and will never see in your entire life.

where have u seen democracy kaushik? in your home? in school?in the playground?on the streets?in your office?..just think about it and you'll see Democracy is the biggest RUMOUR you have ever known.

Ha! Ha!

It seems life has failed you. Why have stopped believing in society at large. Its the right to time to become a director.

Buts jokes aside I confess I dont think I have any first hand experience of politics just as in your case. But I do first hand experience of building cases and trashing people down recycle bins.

Again jokes aside. Why are u gettig agitated??
