Misnomer Arjun

The folly of being named Arjun

Unfortunately I follow Indian politics very closely. And I admit it does not endear me well to others as it forces me to devote my time and read about people like Arjun Singh.

Born a rajput, Arjun Singh was never able to accept that he would not rule some day. Good for him because one of the key attributes of a ruler is that he has to be a leader. And leaders have to take a stand.

But Arjun's dilly dallying during Narasimha Rao's era is famous. When you do not have a cause you are left with no option but to look for the right reason and right time to strike. Afterall a deep set desire to rule cannot be called a stand.

Narasimha Rao atleast had some scholarly credentials for us to respect him as a man. Arjun unfortunately has no such specialities which will earn him any respect. The typical oxymoronic Congressman he symbolises what has always been wrong about Congress.

His entire life has been spent proving his loyalty to the Gandhi family. His only agenda is to cling on to political limelight. Now Arjun is an old man. As a reward for his unabashed loyalty he was thrown the HRD pie. But his brand of politics is no longer hep and happening. He does not have any developmental agendas of his own. And there were indications he would sleep over his tenure and then be cold storaged into a gubernatorial position.

But Arjun is a greedy man. His hunger for power and his senility made him do a VP like decoy. But I hope he knows that inspite of gifting India Mandal, VP could not last the issue. VP is now a lone ranger and cries out from time to time barely audible. He is like Chetan Sharma who gets his chance to do commentary for only the DD channels.

Arjun's fate will be no better. I have intrinsic faith in life and believe that India will live through people like Arjun. We have lived through far worse people like him and tolerating many more in our polity.

Inspite of being on a walking stick, Arjun on the last mile of life, has the vulgarity of clinging on to power. Do these people realise that they are mortal? That they would be standing in a queue in front God. Where the entire account of his life will be audited threadbare. Does he realise that the life he has led will only lead him to be a lizard or an insect in the Amazonian forests in his next birth?

From the looks of it he does not. Result - The Congress will get on one vote less in the next general election.

dear kaushik, dont fall in the trap of being emotional about anything the media highlightes.they do it on a continuous basis to give u a feeling that u too are a part of THE BIG GAME.
u are not. u are NOT a part of the politics,u are not a part of cricket and u are not a part of bollywood.
it only gives your ego a boost and makes you feel important for nothing. And finally at the age of 65 you realise that u have done nothing except being a religious accountant of either sachin, sourav, amitabh, arjun sigh or an anil ambani keeping scores of what they have done or said in their entire life which even they dont remember!
just think about your family pal and above all think about yourself.

for the FIRST time..a sensible post rip. looks like there's still some hope for you. koushik, open a separate blog for these 'important' posts.

Shuv:

No, I cannot handle multiple blogs. So u will have to suffer these important posts.

Rip:

Being emotional is not a trap. Have u ever wondered whats the difference b/w a street dog and human being?? Issue I think fast so I can think more. So that leaves me with a lot time even after thinking about my family. Its not too bad to think and get emotional isn't it.

I know people who dont think. They are happy as well..

dear kaushik, the difference between a street dog and a human being is that a street dog screws because HE wants to screw, and a human being screws because someone else ones him to screw.

if you get a hype thinking that keeping scores about politics makes you a 'thinking' man then think again.
indian politics is nothing but stupid mudslinging of elderly buffons who have simply forgotten to grow up.there is NO thinking involved anywhere.so..

You were right to point out the issue about screwing. Dogs cant think.. Humans can thats more often than not they dont screw their sisters on the road even if they want to..

As for politics why talk of it in the Indian context. As for thinking man. One never becomes a thinking man. Your are born one.

But I guess u suffer from the same problem of Shuv. You always take sides. So u like the maturity to discuss politics. Indian or Non-Indian is the later question.

dear kaushik ,dont get upset.i am not trying to attack u in anyway...please. i am simply trying to save a lot of time in which we can discuss things which can actually make a difference to our lives. discussing politics wont.
as i told u before, unless u r a member of parliament yourself it will always remain a stale discussion like discussing the problems in ethopia or what bush is thinking next...and you can go on and on..

a relevent dialog from satyajit rays 'mahanagar': a doer will do what he never thought and a thinker will go on thinking what he will never do!'

kaushik said...

But the same Satyajit Ray once said its a thinking man's job to highlight solutions not solve them.

Do I look upset. Look at my eyes no one ever accused me of getting upset. No I am not upset. Please carry on. I thought its you who used the capitalised texts.

and who is going to solve? a man who has no thinking, i guess?

Somebody like you. Who claims not to think.. Just joking..
